Bio
Prema Murthy is an
artist living and working in New York. She received a Bachelor's degree
in art history in 1994 and worked for 3 years as an assistant to an inventor
of patented algorithms for digital imaging. Upon learning the technical
aspects of creating digital images, she became obsessed with code and the
way it materialized as interface and image. This exploration into new media
has led her to create interactive installations, web-based projects, and
digital prints to explore cultural and technological hybridity within herself
and the world. She has exhibited in the US and abroad and was also a core
member of the artgroup, Fakeshop. Fakeshop has exhibited at the Ars Electronica
Fesival in Linz, Austria and in the Whitney Biennial 2000. Awards for her
work include a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Computer
art and a grant from the Creative Capital Foundation.
