Bio: Alex learned computer programming in 1982 on an Apple II+. Since then he has pursued careers in both the humanities and computing sciences. Alex received a BA in Modern Culture & Media from Brown University (1996), and a PhD in the Literature Program at Duke University (2001). He has spoken widely on art and culture both in the US and across Europe.

Alex has worked on several Internet art projects including Every Image and StarryNight, and did the back-end programming on the Rhizome Generative Logo. As a founding member of the Radical Software Group, he has made work for the GameBoy and the Commodore 64. Currently he is working on a web-based installation called Carnivore—after the FBI software of the same name—that uses packet-sniffing technologies to create vivid depictions of raw data.
